House Rules

Bali Hai Castro is a unique property and you will have a very memorable stay.

98% of my guests are wonderful and I always recommend them to other hosts. In order to provide this experience to guests throughout the year, here are some basic rules for the other 2%:

NO PARTIES - STRICTLY ENFORCED: As Bali Hai Castro is located in a residential neighborhood, and to respect all the neighbors, no parties or events are allowed. If you want to invite friends or family over during the daytime/evening, that is fine as long as the maximum number of guests in the house is no more than 8 -- including those staying here.

NOISE LEVEL: Please keep noise to a reasonable level during the daytime. Between the hours of 10 PM and 8 AM, the garden/hot tub is off-limits and music/noise needs to be kept to no more than a regular conversation level. There are NoiseAware decibel monitoring devices in the house and backyard, and guests will be notified if the noise level exceeds acceptable levels.

HOT TUB: For noise and liability reasons, access to the hot tub is limited exclusively to registered guests — no outside visitors are allowed.

NO SHOE POLICY: Please note that since this is an Asian-inspired house -- and in order to keep the home as clean as possible for your stay, there is a no-shoe policy inside the house. House slippers are provided for all guests.

The space
Step into a Balinese-inspired haven nestled within a traditional San Francisco Victorian home. Adorned with original artwork, elegant furniture, and an Asian aesthetic, our captivating space offers an exotic ambiance for a memorable stay.

Relax on the plush “L-shaped” sofa in our tastefully decorated living room featuring dark hardwood flooring, an 11-foot ceiling, cobalt glass gas fireplace, and a 55” flat-screen LED TV with surround sound.

☆ Chef's Kitchen:
Indulge your culinary senses in our chef's kitchen boasting stunning garden views and top-of-the-line appliances, including a five-burner Thermidor gas stovetop, a Dacor convection steam oven, and an instant boiling water tap.

☆ Dining Room:
Savor meals in our formal dining room under a large skylight, surrounded by modern Asian-influenced artwork.

☆ Master Bedroom/Bathroom:
Retreat to the tropical-themed master suite offering a tranquil escape with a lavish Temperpedic queen-size bed, original Balinese artwork, and a luxurious en-suite bathroom featuring a heated tile floor, glass-enclosed shower with 3 shower heads, heated toilet seat with bidet, and mood lighting.

☆ Second Bedroom/Bathroom:
A second beautifully decorated Balinese-themed bedroom with its en-suite bathroom and kitchenette will comfortably accommodate an additional couple.

☆ Additional Sleeping Arrangements:
For larger groups, a comfortable queen-sized air mattress with a memory foam topper can be set up in the living room's study area to accommodate 6 guests.

☆ Tropical Backyard:
Unwind in our secluded backyard oasis, offering a rare urban retreat for ultimate relaxation. Dine al fresco, soak in the private hot tub, and enjoy picturesque views of Eureka Valley and the Sutro Tower.
Guest access
Enjoy exclusive access to the home and garden of Bali Hai Castro (excluding the downstairs suite accessed from an outside staircase). A keyless electronic lock ensures convenient entry, and you'll receive the entry code upon check-in.
Additional notes
- San Francisco Short-Term Rental Permit: Filed with the city.
- Please treat our home with respect and keep noise levels reasonable.
- There are decibel monitoring devices in the living room and dining room of the house to adhere to San Francisco noise regulations between 10 PM and 8 AM. If levels are exceeded, guests will get an automated text message.
- Note that the house is on a hill and there are a few steps up to the front door.
- Enjoy the proximity to everything the city offers from our convenient location.
Guest interaction
I love learning all about my guests and welcome company. I usually try to be here when my guests arrive to show them the highlights of Bali Hai Castro and provide recommendations for their stay. After that, I am available for any advice or questions by text, phone, or in person.

I stay in the lower-level suite (with direct street access) along with Dexter, my medium-sized, well-behaved, hypoallergenic, and quiet dog (trust me, you will fall in love!).

I am a long-time San Francisco resident and can give you great advice about sight-seeing spots and restaurants -- or answer other questions that you may have.

Neighborhood overview
Bali Hai Castro is a short walk from the Castro District’s restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets, and MUNI transit station. It is also convenient for Corona Heights Park’s tennis and basketball courts, plus a hiking trail with stunning city views.
Getting around
The house comes with a driveway parking spot, so if you bring your car or rent one, you don’t have to worry about street parking!

The MUNI underground is only a 5-minute walk, which will take you to the downtown shopping district in only 6 minutes. In the same spot, you can find above-ground busses and street cars.

Apart from driving and public transport, San Francisco has literally thousands of Uber and Lyft drivers and it is never more than about a 5-minute wait to have a car pull up at the front door.

Walking in the area is safe and provides a great way to see the area — in addition to being good exercise!
